regarding oranges and professor nikki

This is my first time in the TCC library this semester, and I find that odd, because I’m well on my way to a third consecutive 4.0 semester. My statistics teacher might say that time spent in the library and GPA are independent events, but that’s neither here, nor there. Today I find myself with 22 minutes, sitting at trusty computer #20, which is closest to the large windows, offering a scenic view of the 30 feet directly outside the window leading up to the nearest disgustingly brown brick building. Come with me as I sort through an amalgam of thoughts related only by their mind of origin.

My Lenten offering has started out well, as eating meals without meat has proved somewhat managable. The two problems I’ve run into in a short time are: 1. I end up just substituting cheese for meat, disrupting the balance of my diet and depriving me of needed protein, and 2. I treated this last Sunday, being a feast day, as another Fat Tuesday. Nevertheless, my vegetarianism is a success thus far. Adding more prayer has proved difficult, as I haven’t had much downtime lately. I was able to make some progress with the help of Mel’s suggestion to read John 17. Thanks Mel for mentioning it, and even bigger thanks John for writing chapter 17. Way to go.

My government teacher, or Nikki as I call her, had us watch an episode of the John Adams series that was on HBO. To ensure that we actually showed up, knowing there was nothing but a video those two days, she told us she was going to putĀ  a question about the show on our test. So I showed up and watched it, and it’s really good. I want to watch more of it, but it’s no longer on demand and I don’t want to spend 50 bucks on it. I guess I may need to rent it.

A great observation from the Judge last night that clearly articulates why I’m so excited about the upcoming Ranger season: at every position except for second and third base, there is a fierce battle in camp to make the team. Of particular note is that there are 7 or 8 good outfielders fighting for 5 spots, 3 good shortstops fighting for 2 spots, and 3 very good catchers fighting for 2 spots, with the third likely “winning” a trade for a possible spot on another team’s major league roster. My pick at catcher: Taylor Teagarden, former Longhorn great and best overall catcher in my not-so-informed opinion.

Oranges are delicious, and make an excellent breakfast.

Giving up “spending extra money” for Lent is a great way to get your friends to buy you lunch (Sophie).

When I choose from the very beginning of the day that I’m going to have a good day, it’s usually a self-fulfilling prophecy. The good kind.

Time for U.S. Government with Prof. Nikki, then it’s work from 10:30 until 4ish. Decide to have a good day out there people.

May mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance.

One Response to “regarding oranges and professor nikki”

  1. Did the Rangers get rid of Josh Hamilton? Because by my count that makes 6 or 7 outfielders fighting for 4 spots. I know it may be still undecided what position Hamilton will play, but he isn’t battling anyone.
